statement
Finishing a bachelor’s degree in studio fine art at Illinois State University in ’72, I intended to pursue a career as an artist although the proficiency was not yet there. I moved to Denver in ’74 and painted a bit and tended bar to pay the rent. When I closed in on 30 I panicked and fearing a life of abject poverty entered the business world. After not painting or drawing for 25 years I began to get the urge to follow that long ago abandoned dream. In 2004 my wife and I moved to Mendocino, where I found many supporting organizations including the Figure Drawing Cooperative. I am now on track and pursuing drawing and painting, as I have wanted to do for many years. My recent work has been shown two years in a row at the Sharfenberger Winery, Philo, CA, in the Mendocino Art Center figure drawing show in ’06, in two shows at the College of the Redwoods in Ft. Bragg and in two juried shows at the Mendocino Art Center winning honorable mention in summer ’05. I work in oil, graphite pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink, watercolor and acrylic. The dedication is unwavering. The craft is improving and the voice I trust is happening.
