SANNA KOSKI

Although I've been drawing and painting since I was about 10 years old, it has only been in the past 10 years or so that I've begun working seriously from life in addition to continuing to pursue new levels of realism in my work from photographs. I enjoy painting outdoors from life (en plein air) with watercolors and oils, and working from live models, both clothed and nude. Portraiture has long been a fascination, and has been the focus of most of my art for many years. So it is no surprise that my method of drawing when at the figure drawing sessions is to start with the portrait, and only when I have achieved that to my satisfaction, move on to the rest of the figure, including all that I can record in the allotted time. I work in a small format with very sharp pencils, and strive to record what I see as accurately as I can, hoping to capture a visual poetic statement about the experience.
